About Boundary Cricket

Boundary Cricket is about the stroke. Six of them — adaptive, drive, defensive block, square cut, pull and sweep — are chosen before the ball arrives, and then you decide ground or loft and where between straight and square you are aiming.

That is more decisions than most browser cricket games ask for, and it is why a chase feels like a chase. Blocking out a good-length ball at 148 km/h is a real option, and sometimes the right one.

The chase

Two overs chasing 20, or five overs chasing 50. Short enough to replay, long enough that getting out in the second over actually costs you. Free practice is there for the strokes you keep mistiming.

Club or Pro

Club gives you guided timing. Pro bowls faster and takes the help away. The jump between them is the difference between hitting the ball and choosing where it goes.

Controls

Number keys 1 to 6 pick the stroke, B blocks, Enter bowls the next ball, and the arrows set the line you are aiming through. Space plays the stroke along the ground, and Shift with Space lofts it.

How to play Boundary Cricket

  1. On the menu, pick a play mode (Quick play or Career), a match length or Free practice, Club or Pro difficulty and your team: Australia, England, India or New Zealand. Then press Walk out to bat.
  2. Set your direction before the ball. Hold the left or right arrow to swing your aim round the field, press the up arrow to snap it back down the ground, or tap the field map to aim at a spot.
  3. Choose a stroke with the number keys, from 1 for the adaptive stroke to 6 for the sweep.
  4. Press Enter to bowl. The display tells you the delivery type (seam up, off cutter or short ball) and its speed while the bowler runs in.
  5. Press Space as the timing marker reaches the green zone to play a grounded stroke, Shift and Space together to loft it, or B to block.
  6. Runs are taken for you. Keep going until you pass the target, run out of balls or lose all ten wickets.

Boundary Cricket tips and strategy

  • Match the stroke to the bounce. A sweep against a ball that is sitting up, or a pull against one that is keeping low, is played at a noticeable disadvantage. Save the pull for the ball that climbs and the sweep for the one that stays low.
  • Stay on the ground until you need a boundary. Lofted shots are the ones that get caught. When the game says "watch for a catch", it means it, and a grounded stroke into a gap is the safer way to keep a chase moving.
  • Only leave what is clearly wide. A ball well outside your reach is a wide, worth one extra, and it does not count as one of your deliveries. Leave or miss a straight one, though, and you are bowled.
  • Use the block on balls you cannot score from. B gives you a controlled defensive shot that keeps the wicket safe. In a short chase a dot ball hurts, but losing a wicket hurts more.
  • Look at the field map before you aim. A ball struck straight at a fielder is simply gathered and returned, so find the gap first and turn your aim towards it before you call for the delivery.
  • Expect less help on Pro. The ball reaches you faster, the bat has to be closer to the line of the ball and the timing window is tighter. If shots that worked on Club start missing, swing a fraction earlier.
  • Read the recent-balls strip. The last six results sit on screen, with boundaries and wickets marked. It is the quickest way to tell whether you are falling behind the rate.

The career ladder

Career mode is a six-step climb, and each step is its own small chase. You start with your club debut, needing 8 runs from two overs, then 16 from two for district selection and 26 from three to make the state squad. National trials ask for 35 from four overs, your international debut needs 44 from four, and the championship innings is 60 from five.

A win moves you up a step and is worth 100 XP, while a defeat still earns 10, so a failed chase is never wasted. The career screen keeps your wins, matches and best score, and once all six steps are cleared you are listed as a champion.

Boundary Cricket — frequently asked questions

Is Boundary Cricket free?

Yes, free in the browser, no download and no sign-up. Your career and best scores save in the browser you play in.

Which strokes can I play?

Six — adaptive, drive, defensive block, square cut, pull and sweep — plus a choice of ground or loft and the line you aim through.

How long is a match?

Two overs chasing 20, or five overs chasing 50. Both are short enough to play again straight away.

What is the difference between Club and Pro?

Club guides your timing and bowls slower. Pro does neither, and is where the stroke choice starts to matter.

Is there online play?

Not on this site. Quick play, the solo career and free practice are the complete game here.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, though picking a stroke and a line quickly is easier on a keyboard.

How do I hit the ball in the air?

Hold Shift and press Space to play a lofted stroke. Space on its own keeps the ball on the ground, which is safer because lofted shots can be caught.

How does the career work?

It is six chases of increasing size, from 8 runs in two overs at your club debut to 60 in five overs in the championship innings. Each win moves you up a step and earns 100 XP.

What happens if I leave a ball?

If it is well wide you get one extra and the ball does not count. If it is on the stumps and you leave or miss it, you are bowled.
