Blacktop Rivals is a motorcycle race where the other riders are not scenery. Six of you leave the line together on a highway that climbs, dips and bends towards a sunset, and the five who are not you would rather you did not finish. They ride your line, they close on your shoulder, and they throw punches. Throttle is automatic, so every decision you make is about where you are on the road and what you do with the rider next to you.
The pack is quick enough that you will not simply drive away from it, which is what makes the fighting matter. A landed blow knocks a rider sideways off their line and takes the drive out of their bike, and that is how you get past someone faster than you. Keep hitting the same rider and the blows start landing harder, until they go down and lose a long, expensive few seconds picking the bike back up. Pipes lie in the gravel for whoever rides over one first.
How to play Blacktop Rivals
Steer with the left and right arrow keys, hold up to tuck in for a little more speed, and press space to spend nitro. On a phone, drag on the road to steer and use the pads underneath.
Press Z to swing left and X to swing right, holding shift to turn either into a kick. You have to be alongside a rider for it to connect, and swinging costs stamina whether or not it lands.
Cross the line first. Riders you put down lose several seconds getting up, so a race you cannot win on speed can still be won on the road.

Blacktop Rivals — frequently asked questions
Can I win without fighting anyone?
Rarely, and not against the harder packs. The field is tuned to be about as quick as you are, so riding a clean line leaves you in the middle of it. The fighting is how you make room.
What does a hit actually do?
It knocks the rider sideways off their line and takes a chunk of their speed, on top of the damage. Shove someone far enough and the gravel finishes the job for you — off the tarmac they are capped at a third of their top speed.
Why does my second hit do more than my first?
A rider who is still reeling from a blow takes over half as much again from the next one. It is the reason to pick one rival and stay on them rather than swinging at whoever happens to be beside you.
What is the pipe for?
A pipe more than doubles your damage for eight swings, then breaks. Riders drop theirs when they go down, so a fight that ends in a knockdown often leaves a weapon in the road.
Is there a two-player mode?
Yes, on one keyboard. Player two steers with A and D, tucks with W, brakes with S, attacks with Q and E, and boosts with left shift. Both of you race the same hostile pack.
