Ashvale is an isekai guild RPG that takes the paperwork seriously. You arrive holding a blank card, and everything you become is written on it one letter at a time: D, then C, B, A, S, and — if you are very good and very lucky — S+. There is no chosen-one story here. There is a board in a yard, a clerk called Halla who has other people to process, and a wood to the north full of things that will kill you if you take a contract a band above your plate.
The forest is arranged as a ladder rather than a map. The Near Wood is D-rank, the Deep Wood C, then Blackpine, the Ashen Reach, the Wound, and finally the Maw. Coloured posts on the road mark where one band ends and the next begins. Nothing stops you walking into a band above your rank — the game lets you, and surviving it is the hard part. That is the whole tension of Ashvale: the contract you can safely clear pays slowly, and the one that frightens you pays three times over.
Cleared contracts fill a contribution bar rather than a simple experience meter. Fill it and the board clears you for a promotion exam: a Trial Stone at the far end of your band lights up, and touching the altar calls out a named monster. Kill it and a new letter is stamped on your plate. Die and you keep the plate but lose contribution — a real cost that makes the walk back out feel different.
You do not have to go alone. Two adventurers can be hired and registered as a team with its own name, plate and ledger, and a team that recognises its top three earners pays better than one that does not. Company contracts at B-rank and above will not be signed by a lone hunter at all. Add elemental damage, elite bounties marked with a gold star, daily directives, seasonal months and a guild legacy of milestones, and the loop holds well past the first promotion.
How to play Ashvale
Register at the guild, pick a class and sign the register. Blade Dancer is the most forgiving start; the other classes trade survivability for reach or magic.
Read the contract board in the guild yard and take a hunt, then walk out of the north gate.
Kill the targets named on the paper, walk back to Ashvale, and hand the contract to Halla at the desk to be paid and credited.
Watch your contribution bar. When it fills, the board clears you for a promotion exam at the Trial Stone at the end of your band.
Spend gold on gear and potions between runs, and hire companions once you can afford the team fee.

Ashvale — frequently asked questions
Is Ashvale free to play?
Yes. Ashvale runs in the browser with no download, no account and no payment. Your progress saves in the browser you play it in.
What do the letters D, C, B, A, S and S+ mean in Ashvale?
They are guild ranks, stamped on your plate. Each also names a band of forest: the Near Wood is D, the Deep Wood C, then Blackpine, the Ashen Reach, the Wound and the Maw. You rank up by filling a contribution bar and then beating a named monster at a Trial Stone.
Can you play Ashvale on a phone?
Yes. On a touchscreen the game shows a move pad and an action pad for attack, dodge and interact, so the whole game is playable without a keyboard. It is more comfortable on a larger screen, because aiming with a mouse is more precise.
What happens when you die in Ashvale?
You keep your rank and your gear, but you lose contribution towards your next promotion. Dying is a setback rather than a reset, which is why taking a contract a band above your plate is a real gamble rather than a free roll.
Do you need a team in Ashvale?
Not at first. You can hire two adventurers and register a team with its own name and ledger, and company contracts at B-rank and above can only be signed by a registered team — so a team becomes necessary as you climb.
